GT Sprint: High profile teams sign up for Superstars GT Sprint



A number of high-profile teams have committed themselves to race in the new Superstars GT Sprint in 2010.

The six-round GT Sprint will support the Superstars series this year and will see two 25-minute, single driver sprint races at circuits including Monza, Imola, Hockenheim and Portimao. The championship will be open to GT2, GT3, GT4 and GT Cup machinery.

Confirmed entrants already include international-standard squads such as AF Corse, Edil Cris and Scuderia Villorba Corse, while Engineering Motorsports, FR Competition, Ghinzani-Nossan, Lotus Italia Sport, Maurer Motorsport, Scuderia La.Na, Star Cars, Target Competition, Scuderia 22, Vittoria Competizioni and ZRS.AeffeM are also confirmed along with Swiss Team, which will run a Maserati in the GT sprint alongside its Quattroporte which competes in the main Superstars series.

Cars such as the Ferrari F430 (both in GT2 and Cup spec), Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, Corvette C6, Lotus Exige and 2-Eleven, Porsche Cayman and Maserati GT are all set to be represented on the grid.

The first round will take place at Monza at the end of March.

Autorlando Sport are set to join the Superstars GT Sprint field at Misano next month after confirming it will enter a GT2-spec Porsche.

Giacomo Barri sealed a double Superstars GT Sprint podium at Portimao, the Italian finishing second in race 1 and taking a comfortable win in race 2, to move up from seventh to third in the championship.

Italian squads AF Corse and Vittoria Competizioni shared the race wins in round 2 of the Superstars GT Sprint at Valencia last weekend as Ferraris dominated.

Renowned Italian sportscar squad Team Malucelli will makes its debut in the Superstars GT Sprint this weekend at the second round of the 2011 season at the Circuit Ricardo Tomo in Valencia.

21 cars split across four classes will line up for the opening round of the second season of the Superstars GT Sprint at Monza this weekend.
