PSC: Edwards claims easy Spa win

Sean Edwards clinched his first Porsche Supercup win of the season at Spa last weekend with a lights-to-flag victory.

But the destination of this year’s drivers’ crown won’t be known until Monza in two weeks time after a spirited fight back from Nick Tandy helped him keep his title hopes alive.

Edwards was never troubled throughout, leading from pole position and taking the chequered flag over seven seconds clear of championship leader Rene Rast, who increased his advantage over Tandy to 14 points.

That was in spite of being handed a one-place penalty by the stewards post-race for passing Jaap van Lagen by cutting the circuit.

That allowed the Dutchman to move up one spot to second in the classification after a hard fought race against Jan Seyffarth, who collected fourth ahead of Nicolas Armindo.

But the drive of the race went to Tandy who, after suffering a poor qualifying session, stormed through the field from 16th to sixth to ensure the title fight goes down to the final round.

Kuba Giemaziak, Matt Halliday, Christian Engelhart and guest racer Nico Verdonck completed the top ten.
