PSC: Tandy takes maiden win on home soil

Nick Tandy scored his first-ever Porsche Supercup win in front of his home fans at Silverstone during last weekend’s British GP support race.

After taking pole position in qualifying on Saturday, the Supercup rookie, driving for Konrad Motorsport, nailed his start and led throughout the race, finishing 5.572 second clear of championship leader Rene Rast (Al Faisal Lechner Racing) at the chequered flag.

Rast couldn’t match the pace of Tandy in the early stages of the race and was more concerned with fighting off a sustained attack from Norbert Siedler (Veltins MRS Racing). He eventually got the better of the Austrian to secure second.

Siedler’s hopes of a podium finish ended on the penultimate lap when former champion Patrick Huisman (Konrad Motorsport) found a way past and then held third to the line.

Two days after his 20th birthday, Kuba Giermaziak produced his best performance of the season to net fifth for Verva Racing ahead of Jaap van Lagen (Bleekemolen Harders Plaza) and Stefan Rosina (Lechner Racing).

Matt Halliday (Sanitec / Giltrap Racing), Jan Seyffarth (Veltins MRS Racing) and series returnee Damien Faulkner (Al Faisal Lechner Racing) completed the top ten.

“What a race,” said a delighted Tandy. “The opening phase was tough but became easier towards the end. The start was quite tight and I had to pull out all stops to keep René behind me.

“Over the first two laps he kept up the pressure, but afterwards I was able to pull away somewhat and in the last laps I saw on the huge screens lining the circuit how my teammate Patrick secured third place. What a day for Konrad Motorsport!”
