PSC: Bleekemolen & Rast form ‘super team’

The two standout drivers from last season’s Porsche Supercup will be team-mates this season.

Champion Jeroen Bleekemolen and runner-up Rene Rast, who shared 11 wins from 13 races in 2009, have both signed for Al Faisal Lechner Racing to contest the 2010 season, which kicks off in Bahrain this weekend.

Bleekemolen makes the switch from Konrad Motorsport while Rast moves across from Veltins MRS Racing.

“Jeroen can’t do all the races (due to his ALMS commitments) but I’m still delighted to have him as his undoubted class will help the entire team,” said team owner Walter Lechner.

“Along with Jeroen, Rene was the dominant driver in the Supercup last season and after finishing as Vice Champion, the title is now his goal. We will do everything we can to give him a fast, reliable car to achieve that ambition.

“My goal has always been to attract the best Supercup drivers and that’s what we’ve got with this team,” continued Lechner who applied to the series organisers for a second team license with close friend and associate Adulaziz al Faisal, who will drive a third Porsche with the team in selected rounds this season.

“The joint application for a license was a logical step for us and a sign of the trust we have in each other,” said Lechner.

Meanwhile, Lechner will also have another former Supercup champion on his books as Italian, Alessandro Zampedri, has signed for the team which will run under the Lechner Racing banner. The 40-year-old will be joined by Slovakian youngster Stefan Rosina, who enjoyed a promising rookie season with the team in 2009.
