PSC: Faulkner to make Supercup return at Silverstone

Irishman Damien Faulkner will make his return to the Porsche Supercup at Silverstone this weekend.

The 33-year-old, runner-up in the F1-supporting series in 2007 and 2008, hasn’t raced this year but joins the Al Faisal Lechner Racing team as a replacement for double-champion Jeroen Bleekemolen, who is on American Le Mans Series duty in Salt Lake City.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing all my friends in the Supercup again,” said Faulkner. “I’m thankful to Walter Lechner and his team for giving me the opportunity to race at the British Grand Prix.

“It’s important for me to do a good job for the team and score as many points as possible. Of course that won’t be an easy task since I haven’t driven a single kilometre in the Porsche this year, but I will do my very best and I am quite sure that the team will give me excellent support.

“I’m racing as a replacement for Jeroen Bleekemolen at Silverstone, but with a reasonable performance I hope to put myself in a position to do further races.”

Lechner revealed that he turned to Faulkner, who drove for the German’s team from 2007-09, due to his vast experience of Silverstone, a track Faulkner knows well having won the 2005 and 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup GB titles as well as the Formula Palmer Audi crown in 2000.

"Damien knows Silverstone like the back of his hand,” Lechner said. “I expect Sean Edwards and Nick Tandy to be very strong at their home track so I decided to trust in a local hero as well.”
