GT Open: GTS champions to step up to Super GT

International GT Open GTS-class champions Phillip Peter and Michal Broniszewski, are set to graduate to the Super GT category in 2010.

Peter and Broniszewski drove a Kessel Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia to the class title last season and, after sewing up the championship one round early, tried out a GT2 Kessel Ferrari F430 in the Super GT class during the season finale at the Algarve Circuit in Portimao.

Having secured two top ten finishes in the Portuguese season-finale, the pair has now begun testing the GT2 car at Valencia ahead of a planned graduation to the premier class next year.

Meanwhile, the series’ stable technical regulations look likely to attract a strong field again in 2010. French squad IMSA Performance Matmut, which ran three Porsche 997 RSRs last season, has already confirmed it will return, while British outfit CRS Racing will join the series.

The Ferrari team raced in the FIA GT Championship and GT3 European Championship last season, but will switch to the GT Open to run a pair of GT2 Ferrari F430s in the Super GT class. Team owner Chris Niarchos will share one car with Tim Mullen, with GT3 regulars Klaas Hummel and Chris Goodwin taking the driving duties in the sister machine.
