GT Open: Valencia replaces Algarve as season opener

Series organiser GT Sport Organizacion has announced a change of venue for the opening round of the 2010 International GT Open.

The event, on 16-18 April, will now take place at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo, rather than the Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal.

A statement said that the change was due to ‘a date clash with a local event which posed concerns to the Portuguese Federation.’

GT Sport opted to change the venue rather than attempt to re-arrange the Algarve race on a different date to ‘avoid creating a date which clashes with other international series.’

Last season the International GT Open visited the Algarve Circuit twice as, ironically, the Portimao-based venue was selected to replace the series’ cancelled race on the Valencia Street Circuit, as well as hosting its original date on the calendar.
