GT Open: RPM to give Ford GT series debut

RPM will enter a Ford GT3 for Alex Mortimer and Peter Bamford in the International GT Open this season.

The UK-based team won the British GT title with a Dodge Viper in 2007 and has more recently enjoyed success in Britain and Europe with the Matech-developed Ford GT3. The car will enter the GT Open’s competitive GTS category where it will do battle with cars from the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin and Mosler.

The 25-year-old Mortimer is a former British GT champion and FIA GT3 European Championship race winner and he will team up with experienced Gentleman Driver Bamford, who has raced in the GT Open for the past three seasons in a Super GT-class Ferrari F430.

"It (the GT Open) has been a great experience", he said, "and I have learnt a lot because we were driving against some of the best GT drivers in the world.

“Moving to the GTS category and to the Ford GT should give me a chance of some consistent top results. It will be great to drive with Alex and to return to RPM where I started my racing career".
