AF Corse Ferrari duo score stellar Zolder double win

A double victory at Zolder has sent AF Corse Ferrari pairing Giuseppe Ciro and Gaetano Ardagna Perez to the top of the FIA GT3 European Championship standings.

The duo triumphed in race one by shrewdly fitting slick tyres at their mandatory pitstop and subsequently enjoying a huge speed advantage on the drying track. At times seven seconds faster than his rivals, Ciro steered the car from the back to claim a stellar win.

The Rhino's Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini of David Mengesdorf and Hari Proczyk was second, 12 seconds down on the winner, with the second AF Corse machine of Stefano Gai and Michael Lyons completing the rostrum. The Ferrari was just three-tenths shy of making it a one-two for the Maranello cars but was just pipped by the Lambo.

Race two saw the #50 Ferrari team make the same call and gain the same result. Despite a late shower that put them in some peril the Ciro/Perez car was able to hold on for another win, 12 seconds again the winning margin. Mengesdorf and Proczyk were again second with Dominik Baumann and Max Buhk third aboard their Gravity-Charouz Mercedes.

The #50 AF Corse duo now top the standings from Gravity-Charouz pair Baumann and Buhk. The series' next event is a trip to Spanish venue Navarra on May 27.
