Enge set for second season with Young Driver AMR


Aston Martin stalwart Tomas Enge will remain with the satellite Young Driver GT1 World Championship team this season.

The 34-year-old Czech and 2010 co-driver Darren Turner were title contenders throughout the revived series’ first season before ending up fourth in the final standings at the wheel of their DBR9.

And having come close to lifting the crown last term Enge, a former Le Mans Series champion, is in no doubt as to his aims for 2011.

"Both the team and I have the same aim for the upcoming season to finish in the front," he said. "However, we had the same aim last year but unfortunately we had some troubles in some races but we all learned from it.

"The most important is to have consistent results all the time and pick up points everywhere."

Despite their successful partnership last season, Enge remains unsure whether he and Turner will team up again.

"I do not know now who will be my team-mate," he added. "It is still open who will be second driver."

The 2012 FIA GT1 calendar has been unveiled with several new additions joining the schedule.

Hexis AMR has announced its four drivers for this year’s FIA GT1 World Championship, as the French outfit looks to improve on its runner-up spot in last year’s standings.

China is the headline addition to next season’s FIA GT1 World Championship, after the calendar was released by SRO today.

The 10-date schedule sees the championship take in the brand-new Ordos International Circuit – first used by Superleague Formula earlier this season – in inner Mongolia next September.

 
Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini have wrapped up this year’s FIA GT1 Championship, putting the title beyond their rivals in the qualifying race of this weekend’s event at the Potrero de los Funes circuit in Argentina.

The Vitaphone-Maserati pairing finished down in 12th following contact with Christopher Haase's Reiter Lamborghini, but with sole title rivals Darren Turner and Tomas Enge (Young Driver Aston Martin) also failing to score they were now home and hosed.
