FIA GT1: Prost joins Matech for remainder of the season

Nicolas Prost will partner Neel Jani when he joins up with the Matech Ford GT1 team at the Nurburgring on 26 August and for the remainder of the season.

The 28 year-old is the son of four time Formula One world champion Alain Prost. There are a lot of similarities between the Frenchman and his new teammate. Both he and Jani have raced in A1GP and the 24 hours Le Mans in the LMP1 category. Jani made his debut for the team only last month at Spa.

Prost will be replacing Romian Grosjean behind the wheel, as Grosjean expressed his desire to drive in GP2.

Matech are currently second in the championship standings with 77 points, 34 behind the Vitaphone Racing Team on 111 points.

Matech team manager Martin Bartek is delighted to have Prost on board for the remainder of the campaign.

“I’m really pleased that Nicolas is joining the team, which is now revitalised for the second half of the season,” he said. “We had a recent test and he was instantly on the pace with our other drivers.

“We now have one of the strongest line ups in the championship, and from our points position I’m confident of success. With our home race only a couple of days away, it’s a good feeling.”
