FIA GT1: Clairay joins Hexis AMR

Yann Clairay will join the Hexis AMR team for the last five races of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship starting at the Nurburgring on 26 August.

Clairay will join Frederic Makowiecki in the team’s #9 Aston Martin for the remainder of the season. The Frenchman began his career in single seaters before making the move to endurance and GT racing.

The 26 year-old’s endurance career began in 2003 when he finished sixth overall at the Spa 24 Hours at the wheel of a Chrysler Viper. Last year, he devoted himself to this category, and won the Le Mans Series crown.

At the start of 2010 Clairay was unable to find a team that could match his ambitions, and stepped into the world of rallying.

Clairay thanked the Hexis AMR team for offering him the opportunity.

“When I raced in single-seaters, I had a single dream – to do the Le Mans 24 Hours in an Aston Martin,” he said. “I love its sound, its lines, its cabin. Where the Hexis AMR team is concerned, all I can say is thank you.

“We talked last winter and we stayed in contact. As soon as an opportunity arose, they thought of me. I’ll do everything I can to pay them back for their confidence.”
