FIA GT: All-female line-up for Matech

Matech Racing will field an all-female driver line-up in one of its Ford GTs in the new FIA GT1 World Championship.

Swiss driver Cyndie Allemann and Natacha Gachnang will share the car in the ten-round series and will be joined by Rahel Frey for the Le Mans 24 Hours and Spa 1000km Le Mans Series race.

“I really like the concept of being a female Swiss team,” said Allemann, who switched to GT racing twice in the ADAC GT Masters last season after previous competing in Formula Renault, the F3 Euro Series and Indy Lights single seaters. “I really look forward to showing what a female team will be able to do on the race track.

"This is really good news and a big present after such a hard season last year. A ride for the whole season is wonderful and I am happy to take part in the big challenge in the GT world with Matech Competition.

"The level is extremely high with many big drivers’ names known around the racing world. We will have to work very hard."

Gachnang also makes the switch from single-seaters having raced in F2 last season and finished third in Spanish F3 in 2008. She has also competed in Formula Le Mans and the Radical European Masters Series.
