CARGTDUTCH SUPERCAR CHALLENGE

DSC: Moslers on top at Spa

The Mosler Mt900Rs of Martin Short and Barry van Elk won the two Dutch Supercar Challenge races at Spa last weekend.

A packed 53-car field descended on the legendary Belgian circuit to provide two action-packed races, but the powerful Moslers came out on top with Short’s Mosler Europe entry taking the race 1 spoils and van Elk’s similar V-Max Racing car coming out on top in race 2.

Short’s win was completed by a 6.061 second margin and was helped as pole sitter Cor Euser retired his Marcos LM600 after just three laps. That left the experienced English racer, who is dovetailing his DSC campaign with selected outings in the British GT Championship, to take the win ahead of the Racing for Holland Viper SRT10 of Robert de Graaff / Phillipe Ribbens, with van Elk in third.

The remainder of the top ten was dominated by the Mad & Daring Team who placed five cars from fourth to sixth using a collection of different machinery. The Peter Workman / Nicky Pastorelli Opel Omega V8 Star was fourth ahead of Rick Abresch’s Porsche 997, with Peter Versluis Ferrari F430 and Meindert Van Buuren’s Opel Omega, all run out of M&R stable.

Ric Wood’s self-run Opel Astra DTM grabbed eighth, with another M&R car, Alex Van T’Hoff’s Corvette Z06 in ninth.

The top ten was completed by Brit Michael Donovan in his In2Racing Porsche 997 GT3, a result which also gave him victory in the Supersport I category ahead of the similar Kohler Racing machine of Nol Kohler / Henk Haane. The Carworld Motorsport Renault Megane Trophy of Rene Wijnen / Pieter Dubois grabbed third in class.

The Supersport II honours went the unique Brax Racing Saker Sportscar GT driven by Bob Herber / Milko Tas, who finished five seconds clear of Robin Monster’s Team Moreel Seat Leon Supercopa in second and Bos Zweerde’s JR Motorsport BMW E46 in third.

Sport I was won by the Downforce Motorsport BMW 130i of Laurens De Wit, who was comfortably clear of the second place BMW E36 M3 of European Talents Racing’s Koen Bogaerts / Nik De Jong. The second Downforce Motorsport BMW of Jitse Villerius / Peter Tunissen was third.

Race 2 saw van Elk come out on top overall, just edging the win from the Werkman / Pastorelli Opel Omega with the De Graf / Ribbens Viper racing solidly again to finish third.

The Mad & Daring Team again locked out positions four to seven with Versluis, Van T’Hoff, Van Buuren and Abresch / Pastorelli, while Short was down in tenth.

Donovan repeated his race 1 success to win the Supersport I class from Kohler/Haane with the Carworld Porsche of Charlie and Rob Frijns in third.

Pieter Van Soelen was the Supersport II winner in his JR Motorsport BMW 132 GTR ahead of team-mate Zweerde and the Herber / Tas Saker.

Sport I went to Bogaerts / De Jong who defeated demoted race 1 winner De Wit into second, with Nico Been’s self-run Renault Clio RS taking a fine third.
