Ferry and Robin Monster won the opening race of the Dutch Supercar Challenge’s Supersport II Division at Zandvoort last weekend with European Staffing Racing’s Koen Bogaerts and Mark van der Aa triumphing in race 2.
Van der Aa made the best getaway at the start of the opening race in his BMW 132 GTR, squeezing ahead of Ferry Monster’s Team Riwal Racing Seat Leon Supercopa with Luc de Cock’s Deldiche Racing Lotus 2-Eleven immediately climbing to third.
Fred Cavanagh didn’t make such a good start in his JR Motorsport BMW E46, but he was soon charging up the order and when van der Aa spun, he took the opportunity to dive past Monster and into the lead.
Cavanagh held his advantage after the pitstops, but Robin Monster immediately began eating into his lead. Ultimately though, Monster didn’t need to make a move as Cavanagh was handed a drivethrough penalty for passing a backmarker under yellow flags.
After Cavanagh had pitted to serve his penalty, Monster was able to complete a pressure-free run to the finish, well clear of de Cock in second place and the Musch Motorsport BMW E92 M3 of Michael Schaap and Jacques Groenewegen in third.
Marcel Norbart was fourth in his Passie Racing Seat Leon, while Cavanagh recovered to fifth.
Aart Bosman won the Sport Division in ABW Racing’s Lotus Exige ahead of the BMW 130i of John van der Voort and Peter Claassen.
De Cock got away quickest in race two, but would fade later in the race as the lead battle came down to Cavanagh and van der Aa after the pit stops.
Cavanagh made his move on van der Aa towards the end of the 33-lap race and seemed to be heading for victory until disaster struck with just minutes remaining when a transmission problem saw him stuck in fifth gear for the final two laps, allowing van der Aa to get back ahead and score a first Supesport II win.
Cavanagh held on for second place despite his late technical drama, while Pieter van Soelen completed the podium in his JR Motorsport BMW E46 Coupe GTR, a good reward following his early retirement in race 1.
Bosman was again victorious in the Sport Division, finishing ahead of Guillaume Schulz’s Team TDM Lotus Exige Cup.
