CARGTDUTCH SUPERCAR CHALLENGE

Bumper grid set for Zandvoort DSC round

A bumper grid of 47 cars will head to Zandvoort this weekend as the Supersport II and Sport classes begin their seasons in the Dutch Supercar Challenge.

The GT and Supersport I categories kicked off their campaigns at Hockenheim earlier this month with a large entry, but this weekend’s line up is even bigger at the Dutch track.

The Supersport II class was the most popular in terms of numbers in 2010 and the grid has grown again this year with 29 cars registered for the season opener.

The entry list boasts a huge selection of different marques, including BMW, Seat, Lotus, Volvo, Porsche, Marcos, Honda, Ford and Saker machinery. BMW remains the most popular weapon of choice, including for reigning champions JR Motorsport, with 12 of the German manufacturer’s cars present, including E46, 132, E92 M3 models.

Five Seat Leon Supercopas will also make the trip to Zandvoort along with a pair of Saker GTs and, most intriguingly, an ex-Jan Lammers Volvo 850 Estate which began its life as a factory car for the Swedish manufacturer in the BTCC!

BMW is also well represented in the Sport class, which this year has seen the cars’ maximum engine size reduced from 3 to 2.5 litres, a rule which meant reigning champion Richard van den Bos fitted a revised powerplant to his JR Motorsport BMW.

A number of Renault Clios will also be represented, notably a pair run by Spirit Racing, while Lotus Exige, Honda Civic, Focus Sport and Mini Cooper S models are also represented.
