Rick Abresch’s Mad & Daring Team Corvette and team-mate Alex van’t Hoff’s Mosler shared the wins as the 2011 Dutch Supercar Challenge season got underway at Hockenheim last weekend.
In the opening race, Abresch ran third in the early stages behind the Dodge Viper of Diederik Stijthoff (Speedtec Motorsport) and the Marcos LM 600 of Cor Euser (Marcos Racing International) but was up to second as the pit stop window opened after Euser made an error in the Mercedes Arena.
Abresch pitted immediately and, following Sijthoff’s stop soon after, found himself well clear in the lead. Sijthoff couldn’t produce a fight back in the remaining laps as his tyres went off, as Abresch came home almost seven seconds clear of his nearest rival.
Dave Basu beat Euser to the final podium spot in his Zero R Racing Corvette.
Supersport I category honours went to Bert van der Zweerde’s JR Motorsport BMW M3 Silhouette. Kees Kreijne (DDG Motorsport) was second in his Aston Martin Vantage, while the Carworld Motorsport Porsche shared by Erol Ertan and Rene Wijnen completed the podium.
In race 2 van’t Hoff charged from 19th on the grid to win in his Mosler.
Race 1 winner Abresch was left on the grid at the start, leaving Sijthoff, Basu and Euser to fight it out at the front in the early stages.
Van’t Hoff soon came into the lead battle and made his way to the front of the field prior to the pit stops, never looking back as he rejoined from his stop.
The battle for second was won by Basu, while Peter Versluis was third in his VEKA Racing Ferrari, finishing just ahead of his father Jan. Sijthoff was fifth.
Van der Zweede again took the honours in the Supersport I class ahead of the Porsche of Jaap van Lagen and Wolf Nathan, while Charlie Frijns (Carworld Motorsport) was third in another Porsche.
