The Zero R Racing Corvette CR6 GT1 of Dave Basu and the Race 4 Slovakia Attack Praga R4 of Martin Sedlak and Dick Kvetnansku shared the race wins as the Dutch Supercar Challenge supported Superleague Formula at Assen last weekend.
In the opening one-hour race, Basu followed the Carworld Motorsport Mosler of Niels Bouwhuis in the first stint and was trailing the pole sitter by seven seconds at the compulsory pit stop.
Bouwhuis handed the Mosler over to Milko Tas, but almost immediately the team had problems as the car stuttered down the pit lane. Tas managed to rejoin the track but stopped several times on his out lap before eventually pulling off to retire.
The Mosler’s expiry gifted Basu a big lead at the head of the field and, despite a couple of spins late on as he tyres went off, he still boasted a 55.483-second advantage as he took the chequered flag.
Rudolph Racing secured a 1-2 finish for Covette as the CR5 shared by Roger and Niels Grouwels came home in second place, with Jan Versluis completing the podium in his VEKA Racing Ferrari F430 GT2.
Diederik Sijthoff was fourth in his Speedtec Motorsport Dodge Viper, while fifth overall and first in the Supersport I category was the JR Motorsport BMW M3 Silhouette of Bert van der Zweerde.
The Ford Mondeo V6 MWs of Nelson van der Pol (BRL Associates) and Jacky van de Ende (Van Berlo Racing) completed the SSI podium places.
The second race started behind the Safety Car as the heavens opened, but when racing got underway, Basu looked in control again.
As the rain ceased as the pit stop window approached, Basu held a comfortable advantage but then saw his race ruined as he was handed penalties for separate Safety Car and Pit Lane infringements, dropping him well down the order.
Sijthoff was also given a penalty later on for ‘dangerous driving’ while Rick Abresch’s Mad & Daring Team Corvette also went off while fighting for the lead, leaving Grouwels clear ahead of Sedlak, who had stormed through the field from 22nd on the grid.
Sedlak made his race-winning move on Grouwels with just three laps to go to take an impressive victory and leave the Rudolph Racing Corvette in second again at the finish.
The Brinkmann Motorsport Audi R8 LMS of Ardi van der Hoek and Robert de Graaff climbed from towards the back of the grid to claim the final podium position after Peter Versluis crashed his Mosler late on.
Sijthoff recovered from his earlier penalty to clinch fourth place with Henk Thuis fifth in his Ferrari F430 GT2.
In the Supersport I class, van der Zweerde crashed heavily after just ten laps while leading and Wolf Nathan fought his way to the win in his FE Racing Porsche 997 GT3. The Carworld Motorsport Porsche of Erol Ertan and Rene Wijnen was second, while van der Pol scored a second podium of the weekend in third.
In two separate Supersport II and Sport class races victory was shared by the Team Riwal Racing, Seat Leon Supercopa of Ferry and Robin Monster and the JR Motorsport BMW E46 GTR of Marco Poland and Andre de Vries.
Sport class honours went the way of John van der Voort and Joost van den Akker (Powermotorsports, BMW 130i) in race 1 and the JR Motorsport, BMW E36 M2.5 of Richard van den Bos and van der Zweerde in race 2.
