DSC: Big plans for Downforce Motorsport

Downforce Motorsport will field a fleet of BMW 130is in the Dutch Supercar Challenge this season.

The Netherlands-based team had a couple of exploratory outings in the series at the end of last season, but are now ready for a season-long campaign in what should be an exciting year for the team.

Youngster Jitse Villerius drove for the team during their DSC debut last season, driving a Mini Cooper and then switching to the BMW 130i. After a number of points-scoring results the Dutch racer will return to Downforce Motorsport for the championship this year in the Sport 1 category.

Also confirmed for 2009 is team newcomer Peter Tunissen while the team is still in discussions with several other drivers as the team has seven BMWs at its disposal after expanding significantly over the winter.

Team boss Jan Ozephius said: “After our first season we’re no longer rookies. We now have seven BMW 130is and our own workshop in Gastel. We also have a race transporter flying the colours of the team. Most importantly we have a group of young, enthusiastic people who all have their own input. I do not consider Downforce Motorsport as my team, but one which belongs to all the people who work for us. During our participation in the Dutch Supercar Challenge, the input of every team member is of vital importance.”

Ozephius explained the reasons why his team is committing so heavily to the DSC. “It’s a very professional championship with an international calendar which includes the likes of Spa, Donington and Zandvoort.”
