CARGTDUTCH SUPERCAR CHALLENGE

73 cars for Dutch Supercar Challenge at Donington

A bumper entry of 73 cars will take to the track at Donington Park this weekend as the Dutch Supercar Challenge makes its annual trip across the channel for its only UK round of the season.

The event will be the first time this year that all four classes have raced on the same programme after the GT and Supersport I categories began their 2011 campaigns at Hockenheim in April and the Supersport II and Sport 1 divisions kicked off their seasons at Zandvoort two weeks later.

While several teams have opted not to make the trip, grid numbers are boosted by a sprinkling of UK-based drivers who will make one-off appearances.

In the premier GT division, 20 cars will do battle with the Moslers of Martin Short and Kevin Riley both returning to the DSC having missing the opening round. A pair of TVR Sagaris V8s will also race, one in the hands of Andy Holden and the other campaigned by Steve Glynn, while the Brinkmann Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 makes its category debut.

Gary Furst is one of 16 cars in the Supersport I ranks with his privately-entered Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, while Michael Donovan will drive an In2Racing Porsche 997.

In the best supported class of all, Supersport II, 22 cars will compete. Chris Everill enters a CEC Racing-run Ginetta GT3, George Agyeton will drive a Technosport BMW E46, a car which will also be shared by Jim Pocklington and Steve Papworth, while Americn Hal Prewit is expected to race a Lotus Evora GT4 for Marcos Racing International.

The 15-car Sport 1 class will again see a varied selection of machinery, with a pair of Honda Civic Type-Rs boosting the nuumers, one for Synchro Motorsport’s Alyn James and David Vincec and the other to be shared by Saxon Motorsport’s Marcus Many and Martin Parsons.
