Brit GT: Team Modena link up with team48 for British GT attack

Two Lamborghini Gallardos for ex-England stars Luther Blissett and Les Ferdinand. Team Modena will link with team48 for an assault on the British GT Championship in 2009 with a pair of GT3 Lamborghini Gallardos.

As part of a long-term link up, the Wycombe based squad, which also competes in the Le Mans Series and Le Mans 24 Hours, will field two cars with drivers to be provided by team48. Ex-England, Watford and AC Milan star Luther Blissett, founder of team48, will form part of the driving line-up as well fellow former international Les Ferdinand. The move represents the first stage of a three-year plan with the ultimate goal of team48 fielding an entry at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

“We have been talking to team48 for some months now,” confirmed Team Modena principal Graham Schultz. “We are now very much looking forward to working with them.

“This is a long-term project, with a three-year plan to work with team48 to achieve their target of running a car at Le Mans. With our experience we can make that happen and their goals fit in nicely with what we do as a company.”

Team48 was founded by Blissett with the aim of bringing together the first multi-racial group of drivers to compete competitively in sports cars and GT racing. “I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “For an up and coming team like us to get the opportunity to work with Team Modena is just a no-brainer. They will push us and inspire us to do even more.

“Le Mans sometime in the next few years would be fantastic. We are not expecting to be jumping in cars and instantly winning, we have to build and get experience and are anticipating a two or three year programme at least.”

Team48s driver line up for 2009 will be drawn from Blissett, Ferdinand, sportscar regular Calum Lockie, Kevin Haggarthy, Darelle Wilson and Matthew Gore, with four competing in the British GT Championship.
