Brit GT: Butcher set to make British GT debut

Scottish driver Rory Butcher will race in selected rounds of the British GT Championship in 2010.

The Kent Formula Ford Festival winner and Club Formula Ford runner-up will race in the Benelux Formula Ford series this season but will also make several British GT appearances in a KTM X-Bow after testing one of ABG Motorsport’s cars at Oulton Park last week.

He will share the car with GT Cup racer Ben Harvey, in what may be a long-term switch in focus from single-seaters to GT racing.

“The KTM is a great machine and I’m hoping to do a few races alongside Ben this year,” the 22-year-old told Motorsport News. “The car handled just like a Duratec (Formula Ford) and it’s really balanced.

“I coached Ben when he was racing a Porsche in the GT Cup and he has his sights set on moving up. Together we would make a strong driver pairing.

“I’m determined to stay in (Formula) Ford for another year, but a switch to GTs in the future is a promising option. This would give me vital experience.”
