Brit GT: Spa back on calendar, Magny-Cours dropped

The British GT Championship will race at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps after all in 2010 after negotiations between promoter SRO and the Belgian circuit.

The Spa round was initially left off the series’ provisional calendar, but will now take place on 4-5 June, replacing the scheduled visit to Magny-Cours which was due to take place in mid-May. The other change on the re-issued calendar sees the Snetterton round move to August Bank Holiday weekend from its original slot in July.

"This is great news for the championship and for the competitors," said British GT manager Benjamin Franasovicci. "When we published the calendar back in November there was no Spa option available to us, but that has changed now. Although we are sorry not to be visiting Magny-Cours, we are delighted to be going to Europe's best sports car racing circuit."

The Spa round will also give the championship a chance to try out a new race format, with a single event 150-minute event replacing the usual twin one-hour races or single two-hour endurance event.

"Moving to a two-and-a-half-hour format with two pit stops will be novel for the teams and gives us the option of permitting three-driver entries," said Franasovicci.
