Brit GT: Lester to appeal ‘underwear’ exclusion

British GT title chaser Hector Lester will appeal his exclusion from race 2 at Snetterton in the last round of the British GT Championship.

Irishman Lester and co-driver Allan Simonsen took victory on the road after Simonsen opened up a 30 second lead in the Rosso Verde Ferrari 430 in his stint and Lester held on to win.

After the race however, Lester was found not to be wearing upper-body long-sleeved fireproof underwear and was immediately excluded.

“It’s harsh, but these are the regulations,” said Clerk of the Course Bernard Cottrell.

Lester however thinks the punishment, which has left him 15 points adrift of series leaders David and Godfrey Jones, was too harsh and plans an appeal to the National Motorsport Council.

“I’m going to appeal because the penalty is way beyond the crime, especially as I wear a racesuit with two layers of protection,” said Lester.

Because the infringement was classed as an eligibility issue, Lester couldn’t appeal to the stewards on the day.
