Brit GT: Westbrook set for all-star Silverstone enduro

Trackspeed has confirmed it will enter a second Porsche 997 GT3 in this weekend’s two-hour British GT event at Silverstone.

The team currently leads the championship courtesy of David Ashburn who took a double victory alongside Carrera Cup regular Glynn Geddie at Rockingham last time out.

All eyes will be on the second machine this weekend though with reigning FIA GT2 champion and Porsche specialist Richard Westbrook partnering last year’s enduro race-winner Philip Walker.

Other additions include British Touring Car Championship Independent’s points leader Steven Kane who will be driving a Chad Racing Ferrari F430 with Iain Dockerill, while Aston Martin factory Le Mans driver Darren Turner partners Andrew Howard in a Beechdean Motorsport-prepared DBRS9.

Championship debutants Vantage Racing meanwhile will enter the second of three Astons due to take part with Tom Black joining 2009 British GT race winner Stuart Hall behind the wheel.

Championship manager Benjamin Franassovicci is excited about the influx of high profile contenders for this weekend’s round.

“The Trackspeed car of Ashburn and Geddie will have a tough time fighting against the rest of the field after gaining 40kg of success ballast following Rockingham,” he said.

“Ricki Martino’s team will do a great job, but MTECH and the others will give them trouble. With at least 11 cars in GT3, nine in G4 with two in Invitation, the Silverstone two-hour race is really going to be exciting; I’m looking forward to this race.”
