Wenham graduates to British GT

Zoe Wenham will make her British GT Championship debut this season after joining Century Motorsport.

The 17-year-old, who has campaigned a Golf GTi in the Volkswagen Racing Cup for the past two seasons, will race alongside Welsh Sports Car Champion Dominic Evans in a GT4-spec Ginetta G50.

Despite coming from a front-wheel drive background that also includes stints in Saxmax, Wenham is relishing the challenge of joining the GT fray.

“I'm really looking forward to the season,” she said. “It's a very different car to the Golf as it is rear-wheel drive and a big step up in power but my first test at Oulton Park went successfully and I adapted well in very poor conditions. I loved every second!

“I am still seeking further sponsorship to enable me to test more and become more competitive throughout the season but I am looking forward to being out on track a few times in the next few weeks and then the British GT Media day on the 21st March.”

Century Motorsport team manager Nathan Freke added: “We did a test with Zoe at Oulton Park in terrible conditions and she handled it very well. Considering her lack of experience in anything rear wheel drive she took it all in her stride and once she was comfortable in the car she turned in some really good lap times. She is a great addition to the team.”

This year’s British GT season kicks off at Oulton Park over Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Charles Bateman and Matt Bell scored their second victory in three British GT Championship races behind the wheel of their United Autosports McLaren in the three-hour race at Silverstone.

In a nail-biting two-hour chase to the chequered flag, Joe Osborne and Steve Tandy secured their first ever GT3 win of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Rockingham.

Securing their first win of the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship, Jonathan Adam and Andrew Howard capitalised on a pit-stop error by the RJN Motorsport team to put their Beechdean Aston Martin Vantage on the top step of the podium in the first race at the Nurburgring, before Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron also claimed their maiden win of the season in race two.
