Brit GT: Chevron GR8 set for series debut

The new Chevron GR8 is set to make its debut on the British GT grid this season in the hands of Britcar racer Rob Hedley.

Hedley is currently in advanced talks with Chevron about racing the 255bhp machine, which was launched at Autosport International in January. British GT regulars ABG Motorsport are set to run the car.

Hedley visited the Chevron factory in Cheshire last week to meet with the manufacturer’s sporting director Ray Grimes to discuss the programme, which is set to begin at the second round of the 2010 season at Knockhill in May.

“This is a very exciting project and born out of a conversation that Ray and I had at the Autosport Show,” said Hedley. “Having looked over the rolling chassis they had on display at the show, I could see there and then that this was a proper racing car intended to go out and win races.

“The initial role of the car was to compete in its own GR8 race series but seeing the potential in the car, it would be a shame not to see it compete against other GT Cars and really prove what a good car this will be.”

Chevron boasts a long and distinguished history in both GT and single-seater racing, something which attracted Hedley to the new opportunity.

“To be involved with such a prestige marque is a chance of a lifetime and I intend to grab this opportunity with both hands,” he said. “I was absolutely blown away when I visited the factory and saw the array of original and new Chevron Cars, the history of the brand is fantastic and to see the huge selection of B8s, B16s etc alongside the next step in the Chevron story, the GR8 really was an amazing sight.”

As well as his British GT campaign, Hedley also hopes to race the new car in the Silverstone 24 Hours. He will also continue to a drive the Lunar Racing Vauxhall Monaro in the Britcar GT Championship.
