McInerneys take stunning Rockingham win

Brothers Michael and Sean McInerney made a triumphant return to the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship at the weekend as the duo guided their Eclipse Motorsport Ferrari 430 to victory at Rockingham despite starting the 150-minute race from the pit lane.

Having charged up from the back of the field, the highlight of the McInerneys race was when Sean enjoyed a titanic battle with the similar Ferrari of reigning champions Keith Robinson and Witt Gamski.

During the final 40 minutes of the race, the two cars were never more than half a second apart, but McInerney held on to end Robinson’s and Gamski’s winning streak.

Spanish drivers Javier Morcillo and Manuel Cintrano completed the overall podium in their Mosler ahead of early leaders Callum Lockie and Paul White in their similar car.

The Rapier prototype, driven by Michael Millard, showed strong pace early on but blew an engine later in the race.

In Class 2, Aaron Scott and Craig Wilkins took the class win in their Dodge Viper, also finishing fifth overall, while Class 3 winners were Gareth Morgan and Phillip Jones in their Porsche 997, which briefly led overall during the mid-race period.
