Paul White and Callum Lockie won the fourth round of the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship at the weekend in their Strata 21 Mosler MT900R amid chaotic scenes at Thruxton as heavy rain ended the two-hour race early.
The Azteca/Neil Garner Motorsport Mosler of Javier Morcillo and Manuel Cintrano took pole position for the fourth race in succession in Saturday’s dry qualifying session, but conditions on Sunday were as bad as many at Thruxton could remember, with persistent, heavy rain all day.
A chaotic getaway at the start of the race saw Cintano spin at the first corner and the Production class Synchro Motorsport Honda slide into a tyre wall, necessitating the deployment of the Safety Car.
Front runners Sean and Michael McInerney also hit trouble in their Eclipse Motorsport Ferrari 430, retiring with rear-end damage after spinning into the barriers.
With 50 minutes of the race remaining, the race director decided that condition were not getting any better and opted to end the event early, handing White and Lockie the win.
Paul Bailey and Andy Schulz survived the conditions to take a superb second overall and first in Class 3 in their SB Race Engineering Ferrari 430 Challenge, while category rivals Owen O’Neil and Jon Harrison completed the outright podium in their Top Cats Racing Marcos Mantis.
Class 2 was won by championship leaders Craig Wilkins and Aaron Scott in their GT3 Racing Dodge Viper, while Production Championship honours were claimed by Lee Atkins and Sam Allpass (1) in their Atkins Motorsport Ginetta G50 and Dave Allan (2) in his Synchro Motorsport Honda Jazz.
