SPEED: Garofall targeting Daytona 24 Hours prize
SPEED series championship leader Rob Garofall is eyeing a free drive in the 2010 Daytona 24 Hours.
As well as topping the SPEED standings, Garofall is leading the ‘Sunoco Challenge’ points table, a competition which is being fought out between drivers in British F3, British GT, SPEED and the Radical championship, all of which use Sunoco fuels.
The prize is a free drive at next year’s Daytona 24 Hours, and Garofall is hoping to cement his place at the top of the leaderboard at the next round of the SPEED series, a six-hour race at Snetterton in two weeks time.
“Although it looks close we only have two races left in SPEED, but that equates to nine hours of racing,” said the 37-year-old.
“With an endurance race, one bad result could ruin it for me because it’s the equivalent of four rounds rolled into one.
“I was lucky enough to get the chance to go to Daytona as a spectator a few years ago. That gave me a taste of the event and it’s magic. The prize is in sight but there’s still a long way to go.”
