LMS: Maiden overall victory for Strakka Racing

Strakka Racing made history on Sunday at the Hungaroring, as they became the first team to record an overall victory for an LMP2 car in the Le Mans Series.

Jonny Kane, Nick Leventis and Danny Watts looked pretty invincible as the Strakka Racing HPD ran without the slightest technical problems over the entire distance and scored its second victory in LMP2 class and first overall win in the 2010 season.

It was a good weekend all round for the LMP2 cars as the top six cars were all LMP2 models.
It was a tight battle at the front between the British team and the current LMS champions Quifel-ASM Team. For a long time it seemed that the Portuguese team might snatch a victory from under Strakka Racing's nose, but they finally finished second.

As well as the Srakka team, OAK Racing was also back on form at the 1,000Km of Hungaroring with a podium finish.

It wasn’t such a good day for the LMP1 class, with its slow corners and its narrow straights, overtaking at the Hungaroring is far from easy and the fast prototypes sometimes had a hard time to work their way through traffic.

Overtaking isn’t as easy at the Hungaroring as it is at other tracks but Leo and Greg Mansell were the best of the LMP1 class finishing seventh overall.

Rebellion Racing had one of their best races of the season as they crossed the finish line as the runners-up in the class with Neel Jani and Nicolas Prost behind the wheel.

Vanina Ickx, Pierre Ragues and Franck Mailleux were able to repeat their Portuguese result as they once more finished third for the Signature team.

In the LMGT2 class there were many changes at the front, in the end it was the Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Team Felbermayr Proton that came away with the win.

CRS Racing was up to the challenge in Hungary as Andrew Kirkaldy and Tim Mullen drove the #91 Ferrari to a runner-up finish in the fiercely contested class. Having started from third, the result was the best of the season so far for the British team.

Team IMSA Performance Matmut finally had a piece of luck in Hungry as they finished third.
