Murphy Prototypes confirm Hughes and Firth for ELMS assault

Irish sportscar squad Murphy Prototypes have confirmed that Warren Hughes and Jody Firth will lead their European Le Mans Series assault in 2012.

The British pair have run together as team-mates in the SPEED Euroseries and it's UK-based forerunner, taking back-to-back titles in 2010 and '11, and will remain in tandem at the Murphy squad. The car will be run by Bolton-based RLR, with funding coming from Irish entrepreneur Greg Murphy.

The team has also confirmed that they plan to homologate their Oreca chassis as an MG. This will mean a welcome return for Hughes, who has competed for the marque in both tin-tops and sportscars, taking BTCC wins during the early 2000s and LMP2 class honours at Le Mans aboard an RML-run MG in 2005.

Team backer Murphy intends to incorporate renewable energy into his ELMS effort, the Dublin-based businessman having interests in the sector and its development through motor sport.
