Kimber-Smith sticks with Greaves but loses Le Mans berth

Tom Kimber-Smith will remain with Greaves Motorsport next season but will not be able to defend his Le Mans 24 LMP2 class crown with the team.

The Brit took LMP2 honours at this year’s event alongside Karim Ojeh and Olivier Lombard, the trio also triumphing in the Le Mans Series for the British squad.

Kimber-Smith will remain in the LMS, partnering F2 graduate Alex Brundle aboard the team’s Nissan-powered Zytek machine, but will need to look elsewhere should he hope to defend his crown at the French classic, with Greaves confirming that there is no Le Mans seat available for him. Bundle will be joined by father Martin for the 24 hours, with a third driver – expected to be former F1 racer Mark Blundell – yet to be announced.

However Kimber-Smith spoke positively of the deal, commenting: “I am excited to continue racing with Greaves Motorsport next season.

“The team has done a fantastic job in preparing a fast and reliable car in 2011; this was a major part of the success that we enjoyed during the year. I am really looking forward to the programme for the 2012 season.”

The 27-year also has a GT2 class triumph at Le Mans to his name and was British Formula Ford champion in 2003.
