The 2012 Mans Classic live on Motors TV

Three weeks after the 24 Hours of Le Mans comes the sixth edition of the Le Mans Classic, which pays tribute to the world’s most famous endurance race and which will be aired live on Motors TV. 450 cars will participate as will seven former winners of the twice around the clock classic: Emmanuele Pirro, Derek Bell, Jean-Pierre Jaussaud, Gérard Larousse, Richard Attwood, Vern Shuppan and Eric Hélary

From July 6 – 8, the Le Mans Classic celebrates 10 years of existence. On the 13.629km track, normally reserved for the 24 Hours, American built cars that competed in the past will be honoured : The Caroll Shelby created AC Cobra celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Ford GT 40 which went undefeated from 1966-1969. more than 20 of these icons will be in action. There will also be the Shelby Mustangs and a Howmet TX and cars from the NASCAR world. The other event of the weekend will be the presence of 23 of the 39 Ferrari 250 GTOs built for a special two lap parade to celebrate the car’s 50th birthday.

450 cars in six groups

The 450 cars entered will be divided into six groups, ranging from 1923 to 1979. All these cars are either actual cars that raced at Le Mans or identical models. Group 1 (1923-1939) consists of such vintage wonders as a 2-litre Aston Martin Speed and Ulster, Bentley Blower 4.5L and Bugatti Type 35. Group 2 (1949-1956) features Aston-Martin DBs, Jaguar C and D Types, Maserati 300 S and more. Group 3 (1957-1961) will be a historic fans dream with cars such as Ferrari 250s and Porsche RSKs…). Group 4 (1962-1965) will see the American armada will take centre stage with the likes of the AC Cobra, Ford GT40 and the awesome Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupé. Group 5 (1966-1971) brings together the legendary Porsche 917s, Ferrari 512 Ms and Lola T70s. Group 6 (1972-1979) will once again see a strong American presence with the participation of NASCAR machines such as the Ford Gran Torino and Dodge Charger.
