Westbrook/Garcia score Barber Grand-Am triumph

The Spirit of Daytona Corvette of Richard Westbrook and Antonio Garcia scored victory in the second Grand-Am event of 2012 at Barber Motorsports Park to end a seven-year wait for the team's maiden win.

Westbrook had put the car on pole for Saturday's event and along with Garcia was able to convert that into victory, the #90 entry leading 84 of 103 laps and holding firm at the head of the field following a late race caution period.

Garcia scored pole for the team at Barber 12 months ago only to retire from the race with electrical woes, adding to the team's satisfaction at securing the win.

Alex Gurney steered the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing he shares with Jon Fogarty to second at the flag with reigning champions Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas (Ganassi/Sabates) completing the podium.

However none of the Barber podium finishers leave the Alabama venue topping the championship, with the Starworks pairing of Ryan Dalziel and Enzo Potolicchio's fourth place finish good enough to send them to the head of the standings.

Daytona 24 Hours winners Oz Negri and John Pew are second after taking P8 at Barber, with Garcia and Westbrook third and the Pruett/Rojas combo an unfamiliarly distant fifth. However with just five points separating them from the leaders and 11 rounds left to run there is still everything to play for.
