Aussie FFord champ to race Bathurst 12 Hours

Reigning Australian Formula Ford champion Chaz Mostert has confirmed that he will race in the Bathurst 12 Hours next month in a Racer Industries-prepared HSV Astra VRX.

The 18-year-old former karting champion romped to his domestic FFord title last year, winning 14 of 22 races, but will now try his hand at endurance racing in the competitive Production E class of the challenging Mount Panorama-event.

Mostert, who has recovered from a bout of tonsillitis just in time to begin his preparations for the race, will join fellow Formula Ford graduate and 2011 Fujitsu V8 Development teammate, Ash Walsh, in the car.

“Any opportunity you get to have a drive at Bathurst you grab with both hands,” Mostert said.

“It’s all been a bit last minute but thanks to Wayne Miles (owner of Mostert’s V8 DVS team) I have another opportunity to get some kms under my belt at the country’s best circuit.

“Pairing up with Ash (Walsh) will be good too as we’re going to be spending a lot of time together this year in the Development Series, so learning to decipher how each of us is reading the car and track will be good practice.”

Mostert is particularly looking forward to racing against one of idols, V8 Supercar star Craig Lowndes, who is also confirmed for the event.

“It’s quite strange actually because growing up idolising Craig I never thought I’d actually compete against him – even though he’s in the top class and we’ll be at the other end of the field, the experience will be a good one all the same,” Mostert said.
