ALMS: Cytosport claim Mosport victory

The Team Cytosport Porsche remain in the hunt for this season’s American Le Mans Series crown after clinching their maiden win at Mosport on Sunday.

The duo of Romain Dumas and Klaus Graf had been in control of the race until a large accident required a near hour-long Safety Car period, before proceedings came to a halt for good with 26 minutes left on the clock when it became clear that the affected barrier required substantial repairs.

While the Porsche built a lead of over a lap in the early stages, the Dyson and Intersport Lolas made their way through from the tail of the field into the top three after being sent to the back post-qualifying.

Neither could capitalise on their race pace though as first the Jon Field car succumbed to a transmission problem in the pits before the Dyson-Mazda machine made race-ending contact with a Corvette.

That allowed the Highcroft HPD of David Brabham and Simon Pagenaud to take second and maintain their healthy points lead ahead of the final round at Road Atlanta, while the Autocon Lola finished third overall, one lap off the lead.

There was no repeat of Drayson Racing’s winning heroics from last time out at Road America though. Paul Drayson was unable to keep pace with the leaders during his opening stint before Johnny Cocker’s collision with Luke Hines’s GTC class-leading Orbit Porsche caused the subsequent abandonment.

As always the GT battle was a fierce one with the Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Long Flying Lizards Porsche eventually coming out on top in their battle with the Toni Vilander/Gianmaria Bruni Risi Ferrari and the Bill Auberlen/Tommy Milner Rahal Letterman BMW.

Elton Julian and Gunnar Jeanette scooped the LMPC spoils for the Green Earth Gunnar squad while Velox pairing Shane Lewis and Lawson Aschenbach scored the team’s first GTC win after Hines’ accident.
