ALMS: Porsche names 8 works drivers

Porsche Motorsport has named its eight works drivers for the 2010 season.

The octet will support Porsche customer teams around the world racing in the Le Mans Series and American Le Mans Series as well as other race series and one off events.

German Marc Lieb and Austrian Richard Lietz will continue their partnership in the GT2 class of the LMS driving Team Felbermayr Proton’s Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, while Frenchman Patrick Pilet again joins IMSA Performance Matmut in the same series.

In the ALMS, German Jorg Bergmeister and American Patrick Long will team up to drive the Flying Lizards Motorsport 911 GT3 RSR in the new GT class, while Wolf Henzler will race a similar car for Team Falken Tire.

Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas are set to defend their overall win at the Nurburgring 24 Hours and are currently involved in intensive preparation for the race, while further events are also planned.

“I’m proud to have eight world-class works drivers in our line-up for the 2010 season,” says Hartmut Kristen, Head of Motorsport at Porsche. “We know all of them very well and our customer teams can totally rely on their driving skills. In the development and optimisation of our race vehicles, these pilots also play an important role and our teams around the world profit from this.”

A majority of the eight drivers will begin their seasons at the Daytona 24 Hours in a few weeks time where they will support customer squads in Porsche 911 GT3 Cup vehicles.

The two drivers not retained by the German manufacturer are Sascha Maassen and Emmnauel Collard.
