ALMS: Abruzzi set to contest Petit Le Mans

The new Abruzzi ‘Spirit of Le Mans’ is set to compete at next month’s Petit Le Mans event,  marking the Panoz-built V8 machine’s competitive racing debut.

With the road car yet to receive homologation the Abruzzi is expected to race as an unclassified entry when it contests the September 29 – October 2 10 hour event at Road Atlanta, where it will run under the PTG Team Panoz banner.

Panoz has also announced its intention to enter the Abruzzi in the final round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup event at Zhuhai, China on November 7, meaning the car will also make its international racing debut before the year is out.

“This is an extremely exciting time,” said founder Don Panoz. “These first few months of the Abruzzi ‘Spirit of Le Mans’ are laying the groundwork for what promises to be a tremendously bright future for our brand. These are opportunities to further Panoz’s reputation as the world’s premier constructor of hand-built sports cars."

Catch Petit Le Mans, the final round of this season’s ALMS, live on Motors TV from 4pm (UK) on Saturday October 2.
