ALMS: Luhr joins CytoSport for Petit Le Mans

Lucas Luhr will join team CytoSport for the final round of the American Le Mans Series at Road Atlanta next month.

The Audi factory driver, a two-time ALMS champion, will share the squad’s Porsche RS Spyder at Petit Le Mans with Sascha Maassen and Klaus Graf as team owner and driver Greg Pickett is still recovering from the injuries he sustained in his huge testing accident at Mid-Ohio in August.

Maassen and Luhr have successfully raced together in the ALMS before, winning the LMP2 title in 2006, also at the wheel of an RS Spyder.

"It will also be nice to drive the Spyder again,” said Luhr. “I drove the first race with it at Laguna Seca together with Sascha and then we won the championship in the Spyder the following year so I have great memories behind the wheel of this car.

“To be able to drive it again will be great, especially at one of the best, if not the best track in the U.S., I can't wait."

Luhr’s ALMS record includes 68 starts with 31 victories and 53 podium finishes. In addition to his 2006 title with Maassen, he also claimed the overall crown in 2008 with Audi and is a two-time GT class winner at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

"As much as we would have liked to see Greg back behind the wheel to end the season, we're thrilled to have Lucas join us," said Team CytoSport team manager Geoffrey Carter. "Greg was cautiously hoping to be back for Petit, but while his recovery is ahead of schedule, he is not ready to get back in the Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder just yet.

"Lucas is a great addition to the team. He has much experience aboard the Porsche RS Spyder and I think he is going to fit right in. He and Sascha have proven in the past that they make a great team and both will be a great complement to Klaus."
