Kane and al Masaood score maiden ALMS triumph

Steven Kane and Humaid Al Masaood scored their maiden ALMS LMP1 class win as the series made its first appearance on the streets of Baltimore.

The Dyson Racing duo were able to leapfrog the sister Lola-Mazda ar of team-mates Chris Dyson and Guy Smith during the first pitstop phase and ultimately maintained a comfortable gap to their pursuers.

The Dyson team’s day was made all the easier by problems for chief rivals Klaus Graff and Romain Dumas (Muscle Milk Lola-Aston Martin). The #6 Car was forced to start last after being hit with mechanical gremlins before the race got underway and then suffered brake issues during the event. They would eventually finish seven laps down on the winning machine.

In the fiercely contested GT class Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellars secured their second victory in three races despite a turn one clash with the #4 Corvette and the #56 BMW.

With the Falken recovering to third the team was the chief beneficiary when Corvette man Tommy Milner punted BMW Team RLR’s Bill Auberlen in to a spin, dropping the German marque’s car down the order and leaving Milner with a penalty. The Falken would go on to win from points leaders Dirk Muller and Joey Hand (BMW Team RLR), with The Oliver Gavin-Jan Magnussen Corvette completing the podium.

The Dyson-Smith car continues to edge towards the title with just two rounds left on the calendar, the Muscle Milk Machine representing their only real challenge. Hand and Muller meanwhile remain on course to claim GT honours.

The series returns to action at Californian venue Laguna Seca on September 17.
