WSS: Injured Crutchlow wins home race

Cal Crutchlow strengthened his position at the top of the World Supersport standings by winning his home race at Donington Park.

The Coventry-based Yamaha factory rider achieved his fourth win of the season despite breaking a bone in his ankle in a fall in practice the previous day.

Crutchlow briefly lost his lead to Kawasaki’s Joan Lascorz at the start, but was already back in front and pulling clear at the head of the field when his chief title rival Eugene Laverty fell at the Melbourne Loop on the second lap.

He crossed the line 5.391 seconds clear of Lascorz at the chequered flag, with Australian Garry McCoy (ParkinGO Triumph) securing his best finish of the season in third. Kenan Sofuoglu (HANNspree Ten Kate Honda), while Laverty fought back from 22nd after his fall to take sixth.
