WSBK: Camier gets Aprilia ride

British Superbike Champion Leon Camier has secured a works ride with Aprilia for the 2010 World Superbike Championship.

The 23-year-old impressed the Italian manufacturer during the final two rounds of this season’s WSBK when he was drafted in to replace the injured Shinya Nakano. Sixth and seventh places in the Portimao finale were enough to convince the team to hand the British rider a full time spot on the grid alongside Max Biaggi next season.

Camier dominated the BSB season, winning 19 of the 26 races for Airwaves Yamaha.

“I’m really happy,” Camier told Motor Cycle News. “It’s a great ride and having ridden for the team at the last two rounds I know just how much potential we’ve got for 2010.”

Camier becomes the seventh British rider to be confirmed on the WSBK grid for next season, joining James Toseland, Jonathan Rea, Cal Crutchlow, Leon Haslam, Shane Byrne and Tom Sykes.
