Smrz brother joins Vallelunga.

Matej Smrz, brother of Jakub, will make his World Superbike debut at Vallelunga.
Matej Smrz will make his World Superbike debut in the latest round of the championship at Vallelunga this weekend after being drafted in to replace Luca Morelli.

The Italian has been forced onto the sidelines for the second time this year after picking up a rib injury in a fall at Donington Park. Although Morelli was set to compete, a last-minute decision was made to rest him.

As such, Superstock 1000 rider Smrz, who is the brother of front-running rider Jakub, will get his chance on the privateer Honda around the Italian circuit, a move that has been made possible by the fact the Supertocks aren't racing this weekend.

Currently eighth in the Superstock standings with a best result of second place at Monza, Smrz is excited about the opportunity to compete in the Superbike series.

"When DFX contacted me it was a surprise and things began to be put in place quickly afterwards," Smrz, who races for Ducati in Superstocks, said. "The opportunity that me has been offered is incredibly exciting but difficult at the same time.

"I will face this contest without taking too many risks so I can acquire the greater possible knowledge. I thank all for this opportunity, I will try to repay the confidence of the team with a good performance."
