Brace and Davey capitalise as Legends leaders hit trouble

A bad round for both the title contenders in the three legends races at Mallory Park has allowed the chasing pack to gain points.

The final race of the day played host to the chaos that ensued after the chequered flag. Ben Power, who had worked his way from 13th on the grid, was leading into Shaw's hairpin followed closely by Lawrence Davey, Stephen Treherne and John Mickel. While under braking all four cars were nose to tail, resulting in contact that forced Power into a spin and relegated him down the field to 15th at the 15th line. An altercation in Parc Ferme after the race resulted in Mickel and Treherne being disqualified from the day’s racing, meaning neither driver scored any points from the event.

The main beneficiaries of this were Dean Brace, who won races two and three, and Lawrence Davey, the defending champion also gaining ground on the leaders finishing with two second places and a fifth.

An unfortunate incident for John Bell in race two resulted in a trip to the local hospital for x-rays after being cut from his car. John spun at the John Cooper Esses, leaving UK series débutant Kenneth Jensen with nowhere to go but into the #34. The race was red flagged and the result confirmed after just 5 laps.

Another battle in full swing was that for the title of best rookie between James Holman and nearest challenger Richard Pocklington.

It was Pocklington who made the best start to the weekend finishing in eighth place and earning fastest lap in the first race just one position ahead of James. As race two got underway so did their battle, with Richard once again finishing ahead of James and taking the fastest lap. However in race three things turned round and it was James who made a great start from 11th on the grid. By the time the field had exited Gerards, James was in fiftth. After the race due to the incident with Mickel and Treherne, the 83 was awarded third place overall, his first podium since moving to Legends from karts.

There were other good showings from Eliot Bunn, bagging himself a third and a fifth, while the series’ only lady driver, Jess Gwynne, also finished with a seventh and a ninth.

Next round of the Legends Cars Championship heads to Pembrey on the 8/9 October.
