GNCC (ATV): Wolf stuns the pros with Snowshoe win

Privateer Brian Wolf entered the GNCC history books at the weekend with an overall win at Round 9 in Snowshoe.

Wolf became the first XC2 Pro-Am class rider ever to take an overall ATV victory in the series after a stunning ride which shocked the pro field and left the Yamaha rider almost speechless on the podium.

“I’m so pumped, so excited to be here,” he said. “I’m really not going for the overall, I’m going for the XC2 Championship. This is just a bonus.”

The win comes after Wolf had announced his intention to quit GNCC racing next season as he didn’t feel he was able to fight at the front of the field.

“I always told myself the pro guys are so fast and there would be no sense to keep racing if I can’t be up there with those guys. I hues I stuck my foot in my mouth! I just promised my wife some things, but she’s phenomenal so maybe she will let me (continue racing).”

Wolf’s win was also his sixth XC2 class victory of the season and leaves him 13 points clear of Joshua Kirkland (KTM) in the title standings.

In a race considered the toughest of the season, Wolf led home Suzuki’s Chris Borich, who could console himself on missing out on the overall victory with his fourth straight XC1 class win. Defending champion Bill Ballance was third ahead of his Yamaha team-mate Brandon Sommers and fellow Yamaha rider Jarrod McClure.

Borich extended his XC1 championship lead significantly as closest rival Taylor Kiser could only manage tenth overall and eighth in class.
