Cairoli wins again to edge closer to MX1 title

When the MX1 championship is nearing its conclusion you can bet on one thing: Antonio Cairoli will deliver the results. The Red Bul Teka KTM man won again in Sunday’s British GP to edge closer still to his third successive MX1 title

It was far from plain sailing. In the first moto he led early on but a mistake sent him tumbling down the order to 12th. From there he was on a mission, carving his way back to third at the flag.

The second moto was less complicated for Cairoli, who dominated from start to finish to ensure his fifth overall win of the season. His championship lead is now up to 82 points, making another title almost assured.

Second went to Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel. The Frenchman passed countryman Steven Frpssard (Yamaha) late on after applying pressure throughout the moto. Pourcel then came home third in the second run to narrowly miss out on overall victory.

Frossard completed the podium, repeating his first moto runner-up finish in the second run. Max Nagl (KTM) was fifth with Brad Anderson (Honda) the highest place Brit in fifth.

Cairoli looks set to seal the title next time out at German venue Gaildorf, which hosts this year’s European GP. The season’s penultimate race, it is set to run over the weekend of September 3/4
