Herlings dominates MX2 in Mexico

Jeffrey Herlings scored a third perfect result in four MX2 World Championship rounds in Mexico to strengthen his position atop the riders' standings.

The Red Bull KTM man ran second behind team-mate Jeremy van Horebeek early in Moto 1 with Valentin Teillet (Rockstar Energy Kawasaki) keeping a watching brief over the Dutch riders.

Searle secured second place

Herlings only needed until lap three to usurp van Horebeek before charging off to win by some seven seconds. Tommy Searle (Monster Energy Kawasaki) secured second by passing van Horebeek two laps from home, the second KTM completing the rostrum. Van Horebeek again took the holeshot in the Moto 2 but his advantage would be even shorter lived this time around, Helrings taking just half a lap to seize the lead. He would not be challenged from there and sealed a comfortable overall win.

Searle fell from third during lap one, losing two positions in the process, but eventually found his way back to P2, thus securing overall runner-up. Indeed, with van Horebeek again third the overall Grand Prix result mirrored that of both Motos. Herlings now heads the MX standings by a commanding 40 points from team-mate van Horebeek. However the battle for second is a much closer-fought affair, with the KTM rider just one point clear of British star Searle.
