MX: French Federation reveals MXoN pre-selection

The French Motocross Federation (FFM) has revealed its pre-selection of riders for September’s Motocross of Nations in Denver.

France head to the USA looking for their first MXoN victory since 2001 and have named a strong initial seven-man squad of riders for the event at Thunder Valley.

Christophe Pourcel, Xavier Boog, Anthony Boissiere and Sebastien Pourcel have been pre-selected for the MX1 category, while Steven Frossard, Marvin Musquin and Gautier Paulin are in the running to take on the MX2 class.

“As we have again got a great number of riders who have performed well all around the world, our selection only includes riders who have already scored heat or GP wins,” the FFM’s Olivier Robert.

“We have pre-selected Marvin Musquin, Christophe Pourcel, Steven Frossard, Gautier Paulin, Xavier Boog, Anthony Boissière and Sébastien Pourcel who have all agreed to race the Nations this year.

“I travelled to Thunder Valley a few weeks ago and met Christophe Pourcel, and after our meeting he will be riding a 450 if he is in the final selection.

“With the new rule concerning the age limit in the MX2 class, our riders in this category will be Marvin Musquin, Steven Frossard or Gautier Paulin. The final selection will be revealed in Loket (next month).”

Having already visited the course in Denver, Robert also believes that the European riders will face less of a disadvantage than when the MXofN last visited the US in 2007.

“I think that this track will suit the European riders better than Budds Creek did,” he said. “The ground is a little bit sandy and it’s a ‘traditional track’ which is a little bit narrow in some places, but they will improve it.

“The location is really nice as the track is near a mountain and the main problem will come from the fact that we are at an altitude of 1600 metres. The engines will probably lose some power, and we’ll be in the area on Thursday 23rd of September to do our first test sessions.

“The fact that the event is organized in the US is more difficult for us on a logistical point of view, but we’ll have the support of “Le Top Racing” which is a French structure based in California.

“Our goal is to do at least as well as last year.”
