Another race, another win - Cairoli extends title advantage in Mexico

Red Bull KTM star Antonio Cairoli took his second win of the MX1 season in Mexico to strengthen his advantage atop the world championship standings.

Running third early on in the opening Moto, Cairoli hit his stride and scythed past Clement Desalle (Suzuki) and Christophe Pourcel (Kawasaki) to take the lead. From there he would pull away to beat Desalle by seven seconds, Ken de Dycker (Red Bull KTM) completing the rostrum.

Leader Pourcel came a cropper

Meanwhile early leader Pourcel came a cropper when a piece of dislodged fencing became stuck in his rear wheel, forcing into retirement from P4. Cairoli had a near miss in Moto 2, the Italian nearly crashing out of proceedings and dropping to sixth in the process. However he recovered to third, a result good enough to give him the overall win. Ahead of him Desalle took second spot again, thus narrowly missing out on the outright triumph.

Moto 2 was won David Philippaerts (Yamaha). The former world champ has endured a torrid start to 2012 but bounced back to secure a heat win and with it third on the overall podium. De Dycker took overall fourth after ending Moto 2 in fifth spot, with Tanel Leok (Suzuki) ending the event fifth after finishing both Motos in sixth spot. Cairoli now leads the championship by 29 points from Desalle ahead of this weekend’s trip to Brazil.
